San Fernando Plane Crash Marks First Anniversary

Buenos Aires, December 17 (NA) -- The San Fernando plane crash, where an aircraft crashed at the International Airport and the pilot and co-pilot died, marks its first anniversary this Thursday, December 18, with a preliminary report that, at the very least, turned out to be disheartening at the beginning of 2025. According to the Argentine News Agency, the aircraft—a Bombardier Challenger—was on a private flight from Punta del Este when it went off course, and as a result, Martín Fernández Loza, 46, and Agustín Orforte, 35, were killed. After a month of analysis, the report stated that the plane ended up 230 meters from the end of the runway and about 30 meters from the perimeter fence of the San Fernando establishment. Furthermore, the fire department stated that “at the time of the incident, the airport had a category 5 rating for fire suppression, with a fire truck carrying 6,000 liters of water, 725 liters of foam, and 180 kg of dry chemical powder.” They also revealed that the aforementioned devices were “operational and two fire trucks were fully loaded,” although “unused aircraft in the area designated for the Rescue and Fire Service obstructed the rapid transit of fire trucks.” In this regard, it was confirmed that on October 28, 2024, the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) officially notified the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) about the presence of these aircraft, which hinder the rapid response of the fire department. On December 18, 2024, the aircraft with registration LV-GOK made two flights.
